today is day 5 of the school discovery program and today we were focusing on MOI , also known as moving images.
So, our lecturer for today is Mr Guna , many seniors has told us that he is a very nice lecturer and i believe we all agree after today's lesson.
First up ,we were brought to the equipment room where we loaned a total of 3 cameras, 3 laptops and 3 tripod stands.
After that we went up to the MOI room , where we saw many students still involved in their work and assignments. We were assigned into groups of three and we were briefed on our assignment for today, which was to come up with a one minute video at the end of the day.
He also taught us the different shots that could be taken, for example the basic shots like BCU, which is the close up of an object ,or person, CU which is zooming in around the head level of the person ,LS (long shot) which is anything and mixshot. There was also other kinds of shots for example, panaromic and pan .
In my group, there is Jessica , Dianna and myself and we started brainstorming our idea. We finally came up with a concept of three girls who were once playmates in their secret garden and we started exploring the different places we used to go as a child and finally met each other at the end.Nature was also our main focus. Our video has no speeches and instead, they are substituted by actions , expressions and background music.
After Lunch, we had an hour to shoot our video. We went to Bedok reservoir as that was the most quiet, had the most "nature" elements and we could do our shooting without disturbing anyone.Jessica and Dianna did the directing during the first few shots which were my scenes and after that , it was jess's turn and followed by Dianna's.
We shot past a little after one hour and after we came back, Mr Guna roughly explained the basics to editing a video using Final cut and garage band. Firstly , he did the editing for our first scene and wow did it came out perfectly. in between shots, we had to snip out a little here and there to enable a good flow and he added dissolve frames to let everything flow even more smoothly. He helped another group edit their first scene and added their background music as well. Throughout everything, he reminded us of the little details that could make a huge difference in our videos and told us shortcuts on macbook's keyboards on editing softwares.
Overall,i do believe his patience and guidance had paid off as i have learnt so much from only this few hours of lesson and hands on experience and after a short debrief, we were then dismissed from there. This marks the end of my fifth day of school discovery program.
