Today is day 6 of the school discovery program and we were going to focus on EVD (environment design) and IAD (interior architecture design)
first half of the day was scheduled for EVD and we were first introduced to Mr Hariff. He seems to be different from the other lecturers that i had seen this week as he seemed to be more easy going, humorous but also able to give out clear instructions to us.
we were brought up to level five to the evd project room and then we were given instructions on what to do.
we first settled down and he asked us seperately what we all wanted to achieve from this PPP and he listed them down. he then told us its our "contract" and we should achieve what we said earlier by the end of PPP.
After being split into groups, we were tasked to list out what characteristics should a good design team have and that should be our "contract" as well, to be able to do that with our own team mates.
We were then tasked to list out all the things that a good city should have in our opinions and the things that we are reminded of when we see the word "eco - friendly"and then we are supposed to draft out a rough drawing of an ideal city of ours and it must be eco-friendly.
After half an hour , we rounded up and had to do a short presentation about our "city"
during these two hours, although short but i have learnt that environmental design is not only about the building design, but also a harmony between the environment and the people there.
After lunch, we were focusing on IAD and for that , we watched an hour and a half movie known as Garbage Warrior , which mainly focuses on this man, known as mike and together with his crew, they have a vision to build a community that uses materials that have been thrown away to build houses without using any sources of energy to build a sustainable environment. They have shown his struggles to introduce a new law for test sites for new housings, the houses he have built over all these years, the way these houses have helped victims of natural disasters and also the interior of these houses.
Amazingly as they seem , they are all made up of materials that human have little emphasis for like abandoned tyres, cans and bottles and turned them into little masterpieces all over the houses made up of the simplest of materials.
After the movie, we were then dismissed. This concludes my sixth day of my school discovery program.
